Benefits of the Internet
In today’s world, there’s no denying that we have been making the Earth a much better and improved place to live, from traveling by horses to traveling by cars and buses, communicating by letters to communicating through phones and emails, and so on. But those examples are just like some upgrades of things that we have always been using and doing. What about a brilliant and innovative invention that truly separates us from the past to today? What is a creation that is so powerful that it has the power to connect the whole world? The answer is the Internet, one of the most popular and irreplaceable inventions of the modern world, and marks the beginning of the industrial revolution 3.0, therefore, changed the world forever.
Before the introduction of the Internet, our world was no doubt a darker, more restrictive, and arduous place than it is today. First of all, when people want to communicate with each other from far away, the only way to do that is by writing letters. Surely, letters are one of the best ways to express your feelings and thoughts to the receiver, but when looking at the convenient aspect, it had none. In the next decades, rotary phones and telephone booths were invented as a more superior way to communicate, but, in terms of convenience again, it didn’t have much since you could not bring the rotary phone with you anywhere, nor not anywhere have a telephone booth. Second of all, in the world of commerce, when people wanted to sell something that they made, the only way to do that was to open a shop and wait for the customers to come, with complex signs or billboards to promote their products. By doing that, it is not likely that they will have the opportunity to bring their products to the hands of new customers every day, not if they are big corporations. Traveling around cities to promote the products was also possible, but it was not an effective way to do that since it will need a crazy amount of energy and dedication for doing so. Next, when people wanted to entertain themselves, the most popular option was going to the local bar or pub, drinking alcohol, and dancing until their feet were tired. But, drinking too much alcohol is not ideal for the human body, especially when consumed for a long time. Or we could take a look at some simple alternatives like going to the theater/cinema, playing chess and other types of board games, or playing sports. But, we can see that other types of entertainment also mean other types of fees that we have to pay.
Ever since the birth of the Internet in the early 1960s as ARPANET, all the way to becoming the World Wide Web in August 1991 to right now, the world has significantly changed more innovatively and impressively. First, communication is now easier than ever, thanks to emails and smartphones. You can contact anyone, at any time, from anywhere. Online chatting has also become an extremely convenient way to talk with someone from far away, and it also supports video calling as well, so you can feel closer to those people. Next, back to the world of commerce, the Internet has become a wealthy land of opportunities for people globally to promote their products. New customers come and come every day thanks to modern gadgets that use the Internet like personal computers and laptops. The sellers can also use them to bring their products to the whole world. No need for huge and inconvenient billboards, they now can create their online billboards by using modern technologies. And the best part is, they don’t even need to open a real shop! They can simply create their shop websites on the Internet in their way, no need for much hard work anymore. And the best part about the Internet is the things that people now do to entertain themselves. No need to pay various types of fees, the Internet is the only main type that they have to pay now. And it’s not even that expensive. People can do tons of things on the Internet to relax and entertain themselves, like watching movies, listening to music, playing video games, etc. Moreover, they don’t even need to travel a long distance like before to meet their friends and play games together. Simply sitting at home and using the Internet as a communication and entertaining device can easily do the trick.
In conclusion, the Internet certainly is one of the most important inventions ever created by the hands of mankind. Not just making the world a better place, it also helps make the world a brighter place than ever. And it will not stop there, as it will soon be the foundation to develop the industrial revolution 4.0, thus, taking our Earth to the next step of evolution.
